A Letter To The One I Have Neglected To Love

A letter to the one I have neglected to love:

I am sorry that, when we went out to eat a few weeks ago, I convinced you to order the salad instead of allowing you to indulge yourself in your favorite pasta dish, just because I thought you needed to stick to your diet. What was it called again? How to lose 10 pounds in 10 days?

Forgive me for forcing you to wear high heels all night because I thought you were too short.

Forgive me for bullying you to take down that selfie you posted on social media because I thought your smile looked crooked.

Forgive me for my irresistible urge to point out your flaws when we are alone.

I am sorry for dismissing your dreams because I did not think they were dreams a woman should pursue.

I am sorry I have let this problem go on for too long.

All these years, I have let society dictate my standards for you. I have been swayed by their whispers in the wind. I have expected you to become like water, taking the shape of whatever glass “they” told me to pour you into.

But no more.

The “flaws” I have pointed out throughout the years are not imperfections, they are the jewels that make you radiantly beautiful.

You are worthy. You are more than a conqueror in Him who made you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. I see God within you, and you will not fall. You are strong. You are brave. You are confident. You are not shy or timid, for God has given you a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. You are chosen. You are royalty; a child of the King of Kings. You are God’s handiwork. You have a God-given purpose. You will change the world. You have the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit—which is of great worth to God. You are more precious than all the jewels in the word.

You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.

Never forget that.

Love,

Yourself
